The Pokey little Piecer

So ... remember three eons ago when I had the bright idea to do two, two, two quilts in one? Remember how I found it to be energizing and refreshing? Remember how I am the slowest sewer on this planet and a few others in the galaxy?

Yeah ... I was seriously reminded of that this week. Oh, I still had a splendid time picking the fabrics and watching them "grow" on the wall. I fell deeply in love with these Patasserie babies and surprised myself every time I picked yet another neutral out of my stash that I didn't remember owning. But it seemed to take For Ev Er to finish these two. And keep in mind that they are far from finished.

I have a serious question. (Really ... I'm am serious this time ... seriously.) Should it have taken me one kajillion hours to sew these 50 simple blocks? And by "one kajillion hours" I mean 3 or 4 hours a day for more than a week. How long do you think it would have taken you?

I must admit that a bit of time was taken up in the decision to add the "odd block" to my study in neutrals. I actually decided that this is one quilt that will hang in my kitchen and I wanted it to pick up just a hint of the dark blue in my kitchen curtains. I may or may not use that same fabric as the resting strip. That 3-hour decision is yet to be made.

So spill people, I mean it. If you are a speedy-and-still-relatively-accurate sewer, I want to know how and why. If you are pokey like me, tell me how you have learned to live with that.

Pronto.

No clue whether I'm fast or pokey? But those are beautiful! And it doesn't surprise me that it took that long to sew them. Holy cow that's a lot of work. Truly they are just gorgeous.

I sew fast but who cares when my sewing isn't strait. As long as you enjoy the process, it is time well spent and it is clear to see that the beautiful work that you do is a result of those long hours at your sewing mashine. I envy your skill..... XO

I'm pokey... WAY pokey... but my fingers like it better that way (accident when I was a child :/ I'm already sewing faster than I ever thought I would. :)

I do love.. make that LOVE the neutral fabrics. I love both of them, but it was a great decision to make that pattern out of neutrals.

Oh.. btw... you sew faster than I do :)

Where you chain piecing, or piecing each block separately? That always makes a huge difference for me. Chain piecing goes way faster. I don't know why.

Either way, they are both loverly. And if you ever decide you have tired of one or the other, I'll give it a good home. :-D

Oooh, they are beautiful! I love geometric quilts in neutral colours!!!! I am a very pokey when it comes to sewing.. I blame it on my job and having no sewing table (I use the dining table). So how do I live with it? I just keep forgetting that I'm pokey and covince myself I'll finish it in no time/ ;)

Both quilts are so gorgeous! Sometimes I'm fast, but sometimes I'm pokey...depends on the quilt! But sometimes I'm pokey on purpose...just to enjoy sewing more!

As long as you don't carry a piece or get thrown in the pokey, I don't think how fast or slow you sew or how neutral or vividly blue your squares are matters a bit. And the results are lovely in any event.
