This ain't Iowa . . .

So . . . we're in Heaven. You know in "Field of Dreams" where they say "Is this Heaven?" and the answer is "No, it's Iowa". Well, we are living the revised version where Heaven isn't cornfields with baseball players hidden inside, it's sand and water and cool air with grandkids crawling all over the place.

I will go on the record as saying that our family has spent a great many vacations at the beach since our children have been grown, and it is . . . shall we say . . . not the same amount of unadulterated relaxation, with 2 children under the age of one. I will also go on the record as saying that it is even more splendid.

We have walked and walked and walked and I am sporting just a wee (yet firey) bit of sunburn. These pics were taken after we walked to a Barbeque joint with the grand-dog in tow. We have sat on the beach and have gazed out on the pier. (PDaddy is famous for his pier-gazing ways. This did not go over as well when the kids were young, but now they inherited the same . . . illness . . . shall we say.)

They also inherited his love of Barbeque.

Before I leave, I must add a small postscript: If you are from Iowa, I mean no offense. Everyone has their own definition of Heaven.
What's yours?

Love those sweet grandkids. Gee, I guess I have a granddog too! And 2 little grannies age 2 & 3, Tyler and Trevor. We don't call them T & T for nothing!

Cute pics (but no Asher?). Based on my experience dining with these two, I'm guessing these were taken at the beginning of the meal...

if you love corn, however, iowa is the place for you!

but if you prefer being surrounded by city scapes or surf scenes and not agriculture, iowa is not the place for you.

Yes, ginny, pre-meal pictures. These two are still using the transdermal feeding approach and the maximum surface area in contact with food yields maximum intake (or at least pleasure) protocol. And yes, Asher was particularly well behaved at the BBQ place, and we do have pictures, just not of him in a stroller or high chair.

And Stephanie we do love the beach and the cooler weather, though we often wonder if we'd ever enjoy it as much if it were always there and lost in daily life--like the White House and museums when we lived in DC. However, most of the entreprenurial genes and ambition seem to have run in another family we know, and the housing cost, commutes, and another bar exam have always stood in the way, even with all my family and half my kids over here. And people who do live here seem to end up in places like Arizona and Utah and Texas for some of the same reasons.

P.S. Dorothy, this isn't Kansas either.

The beach, grandbabies, that is heaven, isn't it? It can't get any better.

Just gotta say, Mary doesn't think of herself as much of a photographer and usually sticks to kids and family shots, but that sailboat picture really is nice work!!!
