Do me a Favor ...

So ... here is a picture of the infamous "favors". Pretty much I have Martha and Michaels to thank ... and The Stash. Oh, oh ... and the fact that Valentines is just around the corner and pink (and brown) candies are in abundance. Oh, oh, oh ... and the fact that for some bizarro reason, these particular pink beauties were on sale for 60% off ... even though (as has been previously mentioned) ... Valentines is just around the corner. Call it Kizmet, call it Carma, the "sale-fairies" were working for me that day.

But enough of all that. Let's discuss Martha. I've gotta tell you that I'm not a big fan. I don't like her magazine because I want my magazines to have full page pictures of real-life homes. I'm looking for inspiration in a magazine ... not necessarily step-by-step instructions. And I have never even seen her show.

Is that heresy? (Not to be confused with 'hearsay' ... 'cause it's the honest truth ... I've never watched her show.)

I really like her stuff at Michaels, but I like it best at 60% off. I spent a large part of my day on Christmas Eve touring some of her homes in Southern Cal and I really liked them. (As does this daughter ... and I sure like her.)

So ... let's take a vote: Yeah Martha. Boo Martha. Or ... You-can-come-to-my-home-and-bake-me-something-but don't-ask-to-be-my-best-friend ... Martha.

Let the voting begin.

i say yay martha, most of the time. her "people" have positively changed the way people see style and the way people make and decorate homes. but i think she's absolutely crazy and i usually can't stand people like her in real life, and i feel sorry for her that she has no grandbabies and i always like her hair.
i do get her magazine, and everyday food, which i love.
but i do think she's weird.

have you seen her blog? totally martha. she talks about her mules and her dogs and her staghorn ferns. and that's just this week.

obviously, i'm conflicted, too.

oh, and i love the michael's stuff and your favors. is the baby's name going to be carma? cute!

what about "boo-yah" martha? she can bake for me and buy me things, but we don't need to be bff... nor do i want her to decorate my life.

boo to martha, yea to her staff. i don't doubt she's a natural hostess, but i think the cool, creative, practical stuff is all her posse. let's face it, she would dedicate a whole issue to the history of kale if she could. no thanks!

I say that Martha is "tore-up from the floor up." But if she gave me one of her houses, now that would be wizard.

The whole jail thing has me conflicted. But may I say that I L-O-V-E those favours. If I may be so British.

I like Martha's magazine because of the instructions, and the party inspirations. I think her staff is doing well changing her image, but I feel kind of sorry for her too. She seems lonely in a huge group of people. It's hard to really "like" her. Maybe she's "warmer" in person.....
love the pic of the favors, you're getting to be quite the photographer. Is pdaddy secretly jealous????

As you know, I profess to be a huge Marthafile. But I'm more of a fan of the Martha branding (genius) than Martha herself. As I've told you, I actually can't stand to watch her show because, despite 20 years of practice, she doesn't have a very good camera presence. But I like the mags, I love the look of the mags, I love the way that she has been able to keep her wares up to date to miraculously avoid ever being a mere fad, love that she sells high-end furniture as well as 60% off crafty stuff at Michaels, etc. Also, I have issues with her insider-trading but have to agree with the uberfems that making HER the face of corporate corruption when so much worse is going on is one of the most sexist things to happen in the last 20 years.

Wow, how to comment on Martha without ticking someone off...

While I recognize her many accomplishments, I find her on-air personality rather awkward -- sort of like Hilary Clinton trying to joke with reporters. And the magazine, while beautiful, is not really my style -- feels rather cold. Love the stuff at Michael's, even though I'm not a great crafter.

I guess I think she's a very accomplished woman -- just not my cup of tea!
