Martha, Me and Miss Dub

So ... it still feels a little like fall and I am relishing it. So much so that I decided to bake a pumpkin pie. Now PDaddy loooooves him some pumpkin pie and although he won't be able to eat the crust (do you remember the part about PDaddy not having much of a stomach anymore?) he will truly enjoy the filling.

And I will truly enjoy watching him truly enjoy the filling.

And then I will promptly eat his crust.

I even went so far as to add some fall touches with the left over crust. Very Martha. Except she probably would have put hers on the pie sooner than I did, because I'm not sure mine got totally cooked.

And because I am an EON (Equal-Opportunity-Nanny) I wanted to show off this very fall-ish picture of Miss Dub during a trip to the apple orchard. Is she not soooo beautiful?

Oh yes ... continuing in my Martha ways I will give you a very Helpful Hint about preparing a flaky pie crust. After you have rolled it out and put it in the pie plate and crimped it like a pro ... stick in in your (self-defrosting) freezer while you prepare the filling. The very purpose of such a freezer is to suck moisture out of the air. Because it sucks some moisture out of your crust, you can add a little more water while preparing it and make it much easier to roll out.

Because ... I love patchwork quilts, but I really hate a patchwork crust.

How about you?

Good tip! I, too, love patchwork but not in my pie crusts. At least not for looking at.....as when it comes to eating pie crust, I will eat it no matter what the shape or design! :-)

Tasted as good as it looks.

But you forgot to mention that Miss Dub's daddy (yup, her dad) make a big apple pie out of the apples that Miss Dub didn't eat at the orchard. This simplehappyhome thing even jumps blood lines to include the in laws (we'll save the Thanksgiving in Spain saga of the d-i-l for another comment, but Martha would have been proud of her, too).

I love the leaves on top, and I love the blue pie plate! Such a nice contrast to the orange. Hooray for pumpkin pie and hooray for fall!

And isn't it great we can all measure our homemaking against the model of an ex-felon--special crafts like insider framing. Maybe we can look forward to Food Channel or HGTV offerings like Michael Millken and Jeff Skilling with Cooking the Books or the AIG Spa Retreats for Free Show.

Sorry couldn't resist.

It's hard to remember what I was going to say after reading the ex-felon comments above. I'm laughing too much. Right...your pie is gorgeous. I also cut leftover crust with a turkey cookie cutter, bake and put on the top of our pumpkin pies.

Ugh, I never commented on this, and now I've forgotten what I was going to say. (Probably something inconsequential.)

But I like pumpkin pie and I love Miss Dub.
